Posted by W.B. on Tue Sep 1 10:17:49 2026 This is for instances in New York City bus history where there is no known exact date. 1954: Service is launched on a new shuttle bus, one carrying an old route number - M-13, previously the First Avenue-Allen Street-South Ferry line, now applied to what is called the Journal Building omnibus line, carrying passengers to and from the headquarters of the New York Journal-American on South Street. (Actually, it is the route number which is new; this shuttle bus apparently was around for a few years before that, as a bus transfer dated August 1, 1951 made reference to a "Journal Bus" between Park Row and New Chambers Street but did not designate a route number.) At this point, the route travels from William Street via New Chambers Street, Madison Street, Pike Street and South Street to the Journal Building which was located between Market Slip and Old Street, and returns via South Street, James Slip and New Chambers Street to William Street. Effective as of November 23, northbound buses will be rerouted via South Street, Pearl Street and Park Row to New Chambers Street. The route (with other modifications along the way) will run through May 13, 1966, and be revived as the M-15S - South Street shuttle from February 15, 1970 to April 1, 1971. |
