They were heavily subsidized and for good reason and knew what they were doing. Has the MTA done a better job. What would Jerome Cooper think of Queens bus service if he was still alive today? Right now the Coopers are living their best life, GTJ REIT, the successor to the Transit Alliance company is far more profitable as a REIT than it ever was running buses, so profitable that they have more commercial real estate properties today than they ever have and are pursuing an acquisition strategy of adding properties in the Southeastern United States. Not only that in the late 2000s, I remember reading some place that GTJ did try to operate bus service in other parts of the country, although I am unaware of further details.Edward Arrigoni and others from NYBS like John Provetto who became the MTA Bus Chief Officer are very much critical of the MTA. |
