Posted by W.B. on Fri Jan 9 07:55:56 2026 January 9, 1994 - The Book of Last Runs and Route Extensions Manhattan, New York New York City Transit Authority Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority Service is discontinued on the M58 - 57th Street and York Avenue line. This route, which had run from Columbus Circle to 72nd Street and York Avenue, was begun on September 10, 1989, running on an alternating basis with the M57 bus. M58's route is merged and consolidated with the M31 - York Avenue line, which is hereby extended farther west into 57th Street all the way to 11th Avenue where it now terminates at 54th Street. In so doing, the M31 has come to live up to the "York Avenue-57th Street" designation originally describing what was launched in 1933 as the M-11 under East Side Omnibus aegis, as to distinguish from their M-12 - York Avenue-86th Street line (which had been discontinued around 1939).
