W.B.'s Bus Almanac for August 26th

Posted by W.B. on Tue Aug 26 07:45:46 2025

August 26, 1940 - The Book of Route Resumptions and Operational Changes

Manhattan, New York
Triangle Bus Corporation
New York City Omnibus Corporation

Effective as of this date, New York City Omnibus takes over operation of bus routes previously operated by Triangle Bus as M-10 - Avenue C-Desbrosses Street Ferry and M-40 - South Street. The two lines had been idle since July 17 when Triangle drivers and mechanics went on strike against that company. Under New York City Omnibus, such bus service will be run as 21 - Houston Street and Avenue C Crosstown (an amalgam of the M-10 and M-40 franchises) and 22 - Pitt and Ridge Streets (which franchise had been held by Triangle as M-45); in the process, part of the service along South Street that went to South Ferry is abandoned. This increases the total number of routes operated by New York City Omnibus to 23.
