Posted by W.B. on Thu Aug 5 11:58:03 2021 August 5, 1935 - The Book of First Runs Manhattan, New York Fifth Avenue Coach Company Fifth Avenue Coach puts into service 20 new Yellow Truck & Coach model 718 single-deck buses with 40-seat capacity. The new coaches are assigned to the company's two crosstown routes, 6 - 72nd Street (from York Avenue to Central Park West via Fifth Avenue, 57th Street and Broadway) and 20 - 57th Street (which at this point only runs from Sutton Place to Eighth Avenue - it isn't until 1937 that the route is extended further west to 55th Street and 12th Avenue), of which they will be a mainstay for the next several years.
