Re: When will the Bus Network Redesign Studies begin again.

Yeah, there was a big uproar and fuss among the residents in Jackson Heights, Queens, who would have seen a dramatic change in the bus routes in that neighborhood, where I live there currently. There was a big turnout to one input meeting at a center there, and with MTA NYCT president Andy Byford in attendance there. He faced a lot of criticism and protest from those speaking out their concerns.

As an example, the Q49 route would been eliminated, thus no bus service along an entire stretch of 35th Avenue. Their new proposed route, the #QT74, would run along side streets that had speed bumps installed, and have its southern terminal end near the Elmhurst Avenue local station, non-ADA compliant, of the IND Queens Line.

The #Q49 southern terminal is at the 74th Street-Roosevelt Avenue-Broadway station of the IRT Flushing (local) and IND Queens Lines (express and local), and that is ADA-compliant. The proposal would have the #Q49 and #Q33 lose from each of their berths (starting point) inside the bus terminal, leaving only the #Q70 LGA Airport SBS by itself.

If the MTA tries this Queens Bus Network Design again, the agency will soon be facing another community backlash. The initial proposal in this plan was thought out not well and not in tune what the riders wanted in the first place.
