The problem is that we don't know exactly how much funding that is. But yes, I generally agree with the idea, and I do believe that they should try to incorporate aspects of the redesigns into the proposed cuts (e.g. A Linden Blvd route, a Springfield Blvd route, etc). Just reduce the frequency by however much is necessary, and call it a day. And like we discussed, there's a decent amount of people who are making these types of trips now, and serving them in a more direct way makes the system more efficient. Instead of having everyone pile onto a bus to Jamaica or Flushing (resulting in a requirement for increased frequency on those routes) and having to transfer there, you can use those resources to implement more of those crosstown routes like the Linden Blvd or Springfield Blvd routes.By the way, I remember somebody came up with a good definition for a crosstown route: One which travels perpendicular to the primary direction of travel. (So in Manhattan and to a certain extent in The Bronx, the subway generally runs north-south, so the crosstown buses run east-west) |
