Although, I'd heard of a time where it was an option in Philadelphia, too.

When PTC had transfers, I remember riding a bus (Route L) with my Mom that loaded at Broad and Olney.A loader stood at the back doors and took your paper transfer . If you had cash , you had to go to the front door. More recently , this could have been the set-up at major transportation centers, when Septa still had paper transfers, which are now gone,.Most people have KEY cards, and the bus readers are up front, the Red box. San Francisco has card readers at the rear doors, so you can enter with a tap card. I believe many cities have this option. Septa needs to catch up .
