Re: More news

By the way, according to some old time subway employees I knew, the B of T (and possibly the early NYCTA) had spouse privileges but unlike the buses, where the operator can easily see each individual pass holder, some employee wives would flash their pass through the old slam gate, go through and pass out of sight of the station agent where they would hand their pass to a friend (or two) who would then go through the same gate allowing unauthorized people to use the pass privilege. Eventually, the agency got wise to it and revoked the privilege. Had the current system with Metrocard type photo IDs been in place at the time, such cheating would have been impossible and the spouse pass privilege might still be around as it is on LIRR and M/N.
