Re: Question about the Brooklyn B15 bus.

People are willing to walk further to a subway than a local bus. Part of the reason is that subway trips on the average are much longer than bus trips.

As far as the B44 and B46 being busy, people do walk further to them. Part of the reason is that the headways are better than most routes. What the MTA is proposing in Queens, is wide stops and poor headways. Would people walk a half mile for a route with a 20 minute headway? Definitely not.

Also, even with the high patronage on the B44 and B46, the large service gap between them accounts for a high usage of car services in the area. Just stand outside Kings County Hospital at Brooklyn Avenue, and you will see a line of cabs waiting for the people who do t want to walk to the B44 or B46 or because they don't want to pay two fares to make a trip. I don't see where the MTA is even looking at car services or dollar vans in their studies.
