The 63 St Tunnel and the Archer Avenue Subway were only small parts of a much larger subway and LIRR expansion plan of the 1960's. The Second Avenue Subway, the Queens Super Express Subway via LIRR Main Line and the subway extension to Rosedale via the LIRR Atlantic Branch were part of the original plan . Also the LIRR East Side Acess vis the 63 St Tunnel lower Level. But during the 1970's NYC Financial Crisis, the money was no longer there to continue these projects, and construction underway came to a halt. |
