I haven’t seen any documentation on it but according to my mother, prior to WWII buses and I assume also streetcars stopped at every intersection. The pattern with which many of us are familiar of stopping every other block was started during the war to conserve fuel by reducing the amount of energy and/or fuel required for more frequent stops and starts. |
