I saw video from an MTA board meeting where one of the female board members demanded to know why there was a five minute grace period, instead of a one minute grace period, or a zero tolerance policy.First off, it's still legal to expeditiously stop to pick up or drop someone off. Doesn't matter if it's a bus lane or not. Secondly, if you're dropping off someone who is elderly or disabled, it may take a little longer to safely extract them from the vehicle, and maybe walk them to the front door of the building. Five minutes seems fair. |
