The Manhattan-Astoria leg started when the bridge opened on 7/11/1936, because NYC stopped running the E 92nd St-Astoria Ferry that same day. Robert Moses, Triboro Bridge Authority chair, spitefully dismantled the Manhattan ferry house in the middle of the day. Moses was also the NYC Parks Commissioner and had the authority to dismantle the ferry house. |
