Here's the basis for this from NCHRP REPORT 731Y = t + V/(2a + 2Gg) Equation 2 Where: Y = yellow interval (s); t = reaction time (typically 1 s); V = design speed (ft/s); a = deceleration rate (typically 10 ft/s 2 ); G = acceleration due to gravity (32.2 ft/s 2 ); and g = grade of approach (percent / 100, downhill is negative grade). |
