The Third Avenue – Amsterdam Avenue trolley line would be the next-to-last Manhattan-based trolley to succumb to buses. Six weeks later, the final TARS Manhattan-based trolley rode off into the sunset when the Broadway-Kingsbridge (M100 bus) was motorized.Amazingly, both the M100 and M101 buses today ply routes that are basically unchanged, except for the truncation of M101 at 6th Street and the M103 created to operate City Hall - 125th St. And of course the Third-Lexington one-way pairing has been in effect for the last 59 years. |
