I will definitely miss the RTSs. They were my all time favorite buses. As far as I'm concerned they sort of "revolutionized" the MTA bus system. What I mean by that, everybody wants to talk about the glory days of the GMC and Flxible New Looks, but thanks to the TA's lack of maintenance, those buses were in terrible shape. Over 90% of the local bus fleet had no working a/c, graffiti, filthy. In fact the subways were better in that you had a better chance of getting a car with a\c.The introduction of the RTS signalled the end of graffiti (except the back seats), a/c, forward facing seats, tinted windows. Things I always associated with suburban transit or other transit systems altogether. I could ride an RTS all day long. The problem is that the city brought so many exclusively for years, then NYCDOT went RTS crazy as well. After 38 years its going to be weird not seeing them anywhere in NYC. It's also ashamed that they are being unceremoniously phased out because of a bunch of whiners. |
