The B51 was proposed by local residents from Grand Army Plaza to Lower Manhattan but the MTA was afraid it would be too successful by taking people out of the subway, so they ran a compromised shorter route instead that served few riders. They designed it to fail because they never wanted to run it in the first place. It was discontinued for lack of use. This is the same reason they refuse to bring back an enhanced B71 through the Carey Tunnel. They fear it will be too successful taking people from the trains. |
