State troopers ARE police, not more, not less.But our government in its (lack of) wisdom deliberately makes the distinction, by marking State Police cars as "State Trooper." So it makes sense for newspapers to make that distinction too, because the public sees it. Whereas it's totally stupid when newspapers call the engineer the conductor. The ordinary public correctly thinks of the conductor as the person who takes your ticket, not the person operating the train. |
