Re: Woodhaven SBS: Success or Failure?

I ride the Q52 at least twice a week and I can personally say the service is better than before. However, it could and should be better than it is.

For starters the officials or whoever did not deliver everything that was promised. From what I understand there should be a traffic signal delay if a SBS approaches. That's not happening here.

Seem like the buses crawl across Jamaica Bay compared to before SBS.

There's also the actions of some of the drivers. For example, when they approach a yellow light they stop-even though the other side of the intersection is completely clear. When they approach a local bus stopped at a local bus stop, instead of bypassing the local it will wait for the local bus to pull out first then proceed.

On time I was on a northbound Q52. We just passed over the Atlantic Avenue overpass when we started passing a Q11 on the service road. There's a point north of the overpass where the Q11/Q21 merge onto the main road. The Q52 was already on the main road and approached the merge first. Instead of proceeding, the driver stopped and let the Q11 in first. Maybe they are instructed to operate in this manner I have no idea but I do know it's a small success and if operated like it was intended can be a huge success.
