Theoretically good ideas don't always work in reality. They did a lot of good things, but they might not operationally be working. The routes are "good" for the most part, but the schedule integration is trash. Off-peak scheduling has to be coordinated with peak scheduling.

I would have integrated the super express buses from the Mall with something else, making the Mall a top off point. Having said that, I believe the SIM8X will survive. I do not believe the SIM4X will survive.

If the MTA went to a smaller schedule for working holidays, they could boost off-peak service directly to certain places instead of instituting shuttles. However, shuttles could be useful for boosting late evening services in numerous places. You could run an SIM1 and have weaker routes have shuttle buses meet certain later runs at the bridge. It is an extra transfer, but it would be a timed transfer and that might be acceptable.
