There was a gain in floor length. The rear bench seat is now all the way to the back of the bus, since the radiators were moved down to the left-rear of the body (like the Prevost X3-45, and most transit buses have used for decades). That partially offset the floor space lost to the new lower level. Without the upper-rear radiators, a rear window is now an option... MCI claims for ambiance.There will be a more traditional high-floor version (D40 CRT and D45 CRT) that use the conventional lift instead of the low-floor entry - you'll see those in a couple of years as the NJT order winds down. Once NJT gets all their units, the current D4000/D4500 design will be discontinued. |
