He gave DOT carte blanche to ignore communities if it involved Vision Zero. No previous mayor has done this.He was even hypocritical regarding bike lanes. When someone disagreed with a proposed bike lane, his response was we only institute bike lanes where the community has requested it. Then when the Queens Blvd bike lane and Northern Blvd bike lanes were voted down, he said they were still going in. So what about his previous statement that they were only put in at a community's request? DOT under previous mayors and in his first term was never this dictatorial. With the Woodhaven Blvd SBS, they pretended to have community input sessions to give the appearance that there was community input although they already decided what they were going to do. They made a few modifications though when there was widespread protest. This time they are not even pretending to ask for community input. They are saying this is what we decided and it will be done in 2019. We will be coming out to the community to explain what will be done. In other words, we don't even want to hear what you think of it. Now that de Blasio is a lame duck, he doesn't even have to pretend to be democratic. |
