I was thinking more distance than light cycles, although the two can increase together depending on the abilities of the particular pedestrian.

What I was thinking was let's say you used to get the bus on the curb in front of your residence (or thereabouts) to go into Manhattan. In that case, you would not cross streets to get into Manhattan, but you would have to cross the entire boulevard to get home as the bus would leave you all the way on the far side.

With median-running buses, it just means that you cross halfway going, and halfway back coming.
