Re: Tuscarora Almanac for June 4

Posted by W.B. on Thu Dec 7 16:30:40 2017, in response to Tuscarora Almanac for June 4, posted by IRTRedbirdR33 on Sun Jun 4 10:37:11 2017.

One irony, seeing a New York Times article on the changes, was that Surface Transportation Corp. was the only entity whose routes were not affected by the one-way conversions of First and Second Avenues. However, besides then-Board of Transportation's M-13 and M-15 routes (both of which, again, apparently ran up First and down Second until 1954 when M-13 was repurposed as the Journal Building line), three routes of the New York City Omnibus Corporation, and one of the Fifth Avenue Coach Company, saw modifications and adjustments to their paths:
- 15 (Fifth Avenue Coach) Fifth Avenue / Queensboro Bridge / Jackson Heights line: Northbound buses, from east on 57th Street, travel north on Lexington Avenue (I presume until 1960 when it would have been moved to Third Avenue) and then east on 59th Street to over and through the Queensboro Bridge.
- 16 (this and next two routes NYC Omnibus) 34th Street Crosstown: On First Avenue from 34th to 37th Street, then west on 37th Street, and south on Second Avenue to 34th Street.
- 19 - 96th Street Crosstown: Eastbound buses, from 96th Street, run south on Second Avenue and east on 92nd Street to York Avenue.
- 21 - Houston Street and Avenue C line: From First Avenue, west on 27th Street to Second Avenue, then south on Second Avenue and east on 23rd Street to First Avenue. (?!)
