It seems that after this period... MaBSTOA largely ignored those side signs. For instance, the pre-'72 new looks which came with the destination/route signs (white lettering on black background without borough prefix) did (later) get destination roll signs with the borough prefix, but most retained their original route signs. In fact, usually when an OA bus was shifted to another depot... Obviously, it rec'd a destination roll sign for it's new depot, but they didn't bother to swap the route sign. I remember at NYCTA where the side sign was simply a smaller destination sign, they not only swapped them when a bus changed depots, but bus operators consistently used them.
