The Surface Transit Inc. nomenclature was adopted in 1956 upon its acquisition by New York City Omnibus Corporation, just prior to that firm becoming Fifth Avenue Coach Lines Inc. Until then, "Surface Transportation System" was on the buses (apparently referring to the "system" of routes they operated). |
