Four years later, after the collapse of the similarly-designed Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington, a stiffening truss was added and the sidewalks were eliminated, and there were then six lanes of traffic. In 2003 the stiffening truss was removed, replaced by wedge-shaped wind deflectors along the sides of the roadway. It's a beautiful, graceful masterpiece of engineering. |
