From 1972 to 1974, the Jackson Heights #15 was designated QM15 which, besides the route numbering triplications of that number, was on top of it all duplicative of the designation of the then-Green Bus Lines' Woodhaven and Lindenwood route (now operated by MTA); while the Elmhurst crosstown #16 would have been Q16 in that duration, which duplicated the nomenclature of NYCTA's Fort Totten route. Small wonder why, on July 1, 1974, (QM)15 became M32 and (Q)16 became Q89.As for the TB's (which initials, besides signifying the Triborough Bridge, also had unfortunate connotations with the dread disease tuberculosis), it was actually split three ways: besides M35 and Bx21, there was also M34 (not to be confused with today's 34th Street crosstown ex M16 which, pre-1972, was duplicated by the Elmhurst crosstown - talk about ironies!) |
