I suggested the B11 initially terminate at Coney Island Avenue. I think I proposed that it use Ocean Parkway to return to Avenue I. But the MTA wanted to serve the Brighton Station which I didn't think was necessary. I was trying to be conservative to save costs and if successful, only then would I have extended the B11 further eastward.

But the MTA wanted to do it right away. In fact they wanted it to run to Rockaway Parkway using the existing B6 buses which it actually did for like three years. It may gave been longer. I don't remember. The community cited Avenue J traffic and the route length would make the route would be too unreliable. They said Brooklyn College is as far as it should go. But the MTA refused giving them an alternative of 18th Avenue it Rockaway Parkway. Take it or leave it so reluctantly they agreed to Rockaway Parkway.

It turned out that the community knew more about planning bus service than the MTA and several year later that became the terminus.

The other change the MTA made to my plan was to run the B36 and B74 on Myrtle eliminating done Surf Avenue service. That caused 500 people to demonstrate in the streets forcing the return of Surf Avenue service three months later. There was only one written protest to my service changes from one person living on Avenue X not happy with the elimination of B1 service on Avenue X east of Ocean Parkway.

As far as West 6th Street, I did not propose that the B4 operate from Bay Ridge to Knapp Street. I thought the route was too long. My B4 would have continued on Stillwell to Coney Island Terminal and the B21 would have operated from Stillwell along Neptune to Knapp Street using the current loop to Sheepshead Bay Station.

It was the MTA who proposed that it be one route and they first countered my Stillwell routing with the West 6th Street routing. After residents got wind of what was planned they made their objections known and the MTA relented by keeping it on Stilwell.

I forgot to mention in my other reply that my 1975 proposals also called for combining the B64 and B74 due to the high numbers of students transferring. But Bensonhurst opposed that purely for racial reasons.

I then dropped that and then proposed the B74 be combined with the B68, but Coney Island objected to that one fearing loss of reliability on the B74. So my final proposal was just to extend the B68 to Stillwell from West 5th which was not done many years later when the temporary extension due to subway suspension between Coney Island and Brighton due to rehab work was made permanent.

I also proposed in 1975 the B50 extension from Canal Avenue to Stillwell. That also was done many years later I think after it became the B82, but maybe before.

Finally in 1975, I proposed extending the R7 (later the S7, then the S53) to be extended from 95 Street to 86th Street. That also became reality many years later.

How long if ever until the MTA realizes that my other ideas also have merit? I don't think I will be alive to see it.
