The basic premise behind the low floor thinking was to make it easier for elderly/ handicapped to board, with the front designated for that group primarily, and others toward the rear. Stats showed that most riders were older (or young students that didn't drive, and minorities). However if most riders were indeed older, the front filled up quickly, and it does. No one else wants to climb the stairs either, crowding ensues, making it difficult for the driver to see the back of the bus which has turned into a human cattle car.
The novelty has worn off. Low floors, as currently designed, stink.
