When I was working for Western Union in the very early 1960s, I occasionally saw a student bus on the 50 St Xtown route. I believe that at one time all NYCTA required of a candidate for Bus Operator was a valid NYS operator’s license for a minimum number of years (I believe 2). The NYCTA would then train the new appointees for what was then the Class 2 chauffeurs license and even give the road test by agreement with the DMV. I believe that now candidates must have the CDL with passenger endorsement before they will be hired |
