As far as the mirrors comment, I am glad you added the "if necessary" because that is the key. In his case, even if a cyclist had started moving to the right of me after the pedestrians finished crossing, there still would not have been any conflict since we would both be traveling in the same direction. It was on,y necessary to look right to be sure the last person crossed who wanted to cross.So, you ASSUMED that the cyclist would go in the same direction as you. Assumptions are almost always false because when the cyclist decides to pass all lanes on 8th Ave, from right to left and you start as he got in front of you while changing lanes - - well....... |
