Yes, a car at the crosswalk threshold and a pedestrian on the sidewalk (and no other pedestrians to speak of) basically means the car can go. It will be up to the car behind you (or whichever car comes up when the pedestrian's safety is at issue) to yield.If not, then how would we know when to yield? When the pedestrian is looking at the crosswalk? When he/she comes out of the corner store to move toward the crosswalk? The ambiguity is removed by simply putting it that the pedestrian is in reasonable danger if you don't yield. |
