Why do you need a few seconds? You presumably:(1) are the first car in line and (2) have been waiting at this light for most the cycle's duration (otherwise you wouldn't be the first car) So you already know the locations of any potential obstacles since you've probably been assessing the situation for several minutes. If there's pedestrians waiting to cross or someone speeding down the crossroad, you wait, otherwise, good2go! The other possibility is a bike trying to sneak by you to your right, but unless there is a bike lane you just gotta get in the habit of hugging the curb (so that they can't come up next to you while you're stopped). |
