There are always done incompetent people everywhere.I replied in the way I did because the statement from Whineberg was I am a poor planner, when the truth is the opposite and he is just jealous. No other planner was responsible for the number of positive bus route changes that I was responsible for. But in the NYCT it is very difficult to accomplish anything. People propose you at every turn. Even as a planner if you have done good ideas, you still have to fight with the budget people who know nothing about planning. When David Gunn started in 1984, I had a private meeting with him and he was complaining to me that there was someone in every department opposing every change he wanted to make and if he knew it would be so difficult, he never would have accepted the job. And that was coming from the President who you would think could do everything he wanted. Imagine how difficult it is for anyone else to push through positive changes. Only those who work or worked there know the real deal. Today it is even worse because the chairman doesn't run the show anymore. It is the governor which is evidenced by how he pushed through his LGA route bypassing the entire planning department to satisfy real estate interests. A multimillion dollar plan that doesn't even reduce travel time from midtown to LGA. An utter disgrace. |
