I also recall a number of smaller GMs like TDH 4509s also operating on the FACCO routes after the double decks were retired. Although you describe the C50s as not successful, they remained in service into the early 1960s, being transferred to the FACCO subsidiary, Surface Transit. When I was younger, I used to enjoy riding home to Wash Hts on the upper deck of a Queen Mary especially during Christmas time when I could get a good view of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. I don’t recall the Whites, but since you say there were only 8 of them, that would explain why I probably never saw one. |
