I was using exaggeration, but only slightly. I had to go to the DOT website to find what I remember doing. I went to a meeting on Woodhaven SBS on June 25th, 2014. They had us do a weird design exercise where we put bus lanes and bike lanes and medians with trees on a cross section of Woodhaven Boulevard. Basically we could redesign the Boulevard from scratch. I put center-running bus lanes in mine. If you look at the results (www.nyc.gov/html/brt/downloads/pdf/2014-06-25-brt-woodhaven_publicworkshop2-streetdesigns.pdf) look at slide 13. Somebody left a 7-foot median with trees and one lane of parking, and bulldozed the rest to be 5 lanes in each direction. So somebody did suggest getting rid of the medians between the main road and the access road, somebody suggested getting rid of a lane of parking, and somebody suggested destroying any trees that exist in the side medians. Obviously this is just one person's idea, and a lot of the results had bus lanes and bike lanes. But the slide 13 design is clearly oriented towards car drivers (the majority of road users) and not bus riders or pedestrians or bicyclists. It's an extreme proposal but somebody out there is thinking it.
