Just the fact that they said South Brooklyn rather than southern Brooklyn shows how little they know about the borough. They probably never even heard that the term South Brooklyn used to be synonymous with Red Hook which in in northern Brooklyn.Their knowledge of bus route history or route usage is not that much better. The planners have no feel for the system because unless they are bus buffs, they rarely ride the system and make decisions from their ivory tower using numbers on pieces of papers. The bus operators no what is really happening for their small piece of the system they're involved in, but the MTA wouldn't even think of asking them for their opinions as to what may be needed because they believe they have all the answers. Be prepared to see other obvious mistakes that anyone familiar with the system would never make. |
