This morning, someone is offering on Ebay a Bx1 southbound transfer from 1947.
  • Bx1 Transfer on Ebay

  • ---
The details on the transfer confirm my memory about the lack of bus-to-trolley transfer privileges in The Bronx in that era. The transfer shown is valid:
At Mosholu Pkwy & Grand Concourse E. on Gun Hill Road Line.
At Fordham Rd & Grand Concourse, W or E on City Island - Fordham Line to Eastchester Rd only.
    West on Jerome-Bainbridge Ave. Line.
At 170 St & Grand Concourse E or W on 170 St Crosstown, E or W on Macombs Road Line.
At 165th St. & Grand Concourse, E on Concourse Hub Line.
    ---
In subsequent posts, I may refer to puzzling small items in the New York Times that mingle the issue of transfers with that of zones. The statement above to Eastchester Road only may suggest the ghost of a zone, or maybe there were two zones on Bx12. A NY Times brief article from 1939 (which I will treat later) implies zones on the Grand Concourse, but it may be that a person boarding a northbound Bx2 was not allowed a transfer to a Bx1 to reach Broadway & 231st St. Just maybe. In 1947, the item on Ebay, clearly offers a transfer from the Bx1 to the Hub branch, Bx2.
