Third Ave become one-way (N/B) in 1973 when the Third Ave el service ended/Bx55 service started. The new Bx55 and Bx29 operated N/B on Third Ave, and S/B on Washington Ave. The Bx55 buses going to/from 199th St Hub also operated via Melrose Ave between 149th and 161st Streets. Those were the best days for the Bx55, and it because quite the slow ride when Third Ave was converted back to two-way traffic flow. |
