So let's work this out. Let's say 15 people are boarding at a stop. With a typical local bus, it's 3.5 times 15, or 52.5 seconds.

With a 3-door SBS, (POP system) it's 2.2 times 5 (if passengers divide equally among the three doors), or 11 seconds.

With a hypothetical 3-door bus where you were expected to pay on entry but can swipe at any door, it's 3.5 times 5, or 17.5 seconds.

(Assume that exiting passengers take the same amount of time regardless of type of bus.)

Sounds like multi-door boarding is vastly more important in time-savings than having off-board fare payment (and is probably much cheaper). It's just a matter of arranging for enforcement.
