If I recall back in Surface Transit days, the Bx1 and Bx2 along with some other routes I can’t recall at the moment operated out of a depot called “Central Bronx” which was actually in the area of 126 St and 2 Av in Manhattan and was taken over by the city when MaBSTOA was created in 1962. Prior to that the NYCTA “Manhattan Garage” was merely an open lot near the Central Bronx garage where its buses were stored. When the city and TA took over, it claimed the former STS garage to store and maintain NYCTA buses and the former STS, now MaBSTOA, buses were reassigned to other depots.
