Collecting the money, getting over the bureaucratic hurdles, and beating back community opposition (i.e., NIMBYs) is a lot longer and harder for a transportation line than a building. Plus, the profits and benefits for a building are easy to visualize; not so much for transit line, esp. since it will be paid with taxpayer dollars.Bloomberg encountered fewer problems because he was able to get the money to an extent, and transit was in demand. It would have been nice to put in the 10th Ave station, but even he couldn't get past cost overruns. |
