I also disagree with your contention that fare collection was quicker when the fare was a nickel...Things were speeded up again when the fare machines started accepting tokens which wasn't until the 1970s I believe.I wasn't around for nickel fares, but it was probably faster because bus riders simply carried nickels, which acted as de facto tokens. When the fare increased and required multiple coins, change, etc., the boarding process began to take longer. |
