But was the MTA proposing budget problems and service cuts just as bad as NICE is. Why replace NICE/Veolia with the MTA if the MTA would just be proposing the same thing?The more pressing question is why does it seem that riders are pressing for changes or at least now not for the fare to go up and the governemnt seems un willing to attempt to find a solution. I remember back in 2002 when Suffolk had to raise fares becuase of a budget problem. Riders complained and the fare went up but they recinded the fare increase quickly because they continued to look for a solution and worked with the state. The diffrences between this and that were that the County Executive and the governor were of the same party which probably helped in the state wanting to help, and Suffolk has always seems to have had a deficit when it comes to transit and still have been able to run the system without much problems. |
