The last open tops were retired in 1946 (replaced with 4506's). Last closed top non-Queen Marys were withdrawn in 1947 (replaced with 4507's). The first Queen Mays model 720's were withdrawn in 1951 on route 15-Jackson Heights (replaced with Mack C-50's).The balance of the Queen Marys model 735 high roofs were all to be replaced in 1952 with 5104's; but because of public outcry, a small group were keep that ran in short-turn service on route 5 from 57 St to 135 St.They were finally replaced in 1953 with a small group of White 1150's, ending all Fifth Avenue double decker service.FACCO's subsidiary Chicago Motor Coach replaced its Queen Marys in 1951 with 5103's. |
