The toll that should be eliminated is the Atlantic Beach Bridge. It's also one county (although not in NYC), the agency which operates it exists solely to operate the bridge and much of the tolls are used for the sole purpose of keeping the Nassau County Bridge Authority alive. On top of everything, they do not take E-ZPass, making it annoyingly inconvenient to use. It is the only toll bridge on cultural/political Long Island.The only people who want it are the people of Atlantic Beach, who can pretend they live in a gated community with it. If I had to use that bridge, I'd pay with a bag full of pennies. |
