Well marching in a rally gives the unemployed and underemployed something to do to pass the time without a parade permit.As you said, these "spontaneous" rallies wreck havoc on traffic, commerce, and pollution. But these do-gooders only have one point of view and "compromise" is not in their lingo. Even scheduled events can cause traffic nightmares, such as presidential, papal and diplomatic visits. I remember as a youth taking FACC's #15 route from Sunnyside into Manhattan. Traffic was bumper to bumper from about 32nd St and QB, over the bridge and until we got to 5th Avenue. Why? Nikita Khrushchev was speaking at the UN that day. |
