The MetroCard fareboxes replaced the ones that took bills. They did have a box that accepted bills for brief period, but it was just a box with a slot, and the local buses used it for only a few months.The exceptions were NYBS and LLE which did in fact have a mechanical firebox add-on that took bills while also taking MetroCards. There was also a period after the NYCT fare went to $2 that the private companies stayed at $1.50 MetroCard. You'd be charged 50¢ to transfer to the Subway, but bus transfers to NYCT were free. And it was still $1 cash off peak with a free transfer to any bus. |
